Chapter 126: Forty-one. Weird Night

Chapter 126 Forty One. The Night of the Weird

  Whoa——

Lu Li wanted to close the newspaper, but an invisible force stopped him.

   "I haven't finished it yet."

floated behind Lu Li, looking over her shoulders and looking at the newspaper, Anna said.

Lu Li stopped, and the chair made a sour movement, giving some space.

Anna leaned forward and continued to read.

The simple room is lit with oil lamps, and there is something called tranquility flowing. Until Anna finished it, she let out a long sigh: "Hey—Shadow Town—"

Realizing that the voice was a bit loud at this time, Anna covered her mouth, her clear eyes reflecting the candlelight widened and whispered: "The weirdness of Shadow Town is all fake...?"

"That's what it said above." Lu Li neither denied nor agreed.

Anna's tone was worried: "Then the fruit in your food..."

Lu Li frowned slightly and replied, "I haven't noticed anything unusual... But just in case, I might need you to be on duty tonight, okay?"

   "Leave it to me!"

Anna's strength may not be strong, but it is more than enough to deal with some small town residents.

   "But don't we do anything?"

"What are you doing?" Lu Li raised his eyes and looked at her quietly.

Anna touched the back of her head and said, "Well... it's just the trouble of looking for an old woman."

"It doesn't make sense. If the article is true, there are residents of the entire town behind her. This is not a personal act." Lu Li shook his head gently. "And don't forget what we're here for."

Frankly speaking, Lu Li did not intend to interfere with the behavior of the residents of the town, even if he was also one of the victims. It's just a scam after all, and not too harmful.

"That's right..." Maybe it was the illusion brought about by Lu Li's woolen coat. Anna, who always thought they were the detective team, nodded suddenly, put away the newspaper and put it back to the previous position, picked up the unfinished novel: "The one next door Where's the guy?"

I haven't seen the mysterious man come out since he got into the room. And apart from the initial sound, there was a dead silence behind, as if there was an empty room next door.

"When he doesn't exist." Lu Li said concisely.

"Oh... Anyway, rest, I'll keep watch."

The alarm clock on the dining table pointed to less than eight o’clock, which was a little early, but in this place where there was no leisure, most of the people had already got into the bedding under the dim light of the oil lamp.

Lu Li got up, left the wooden chair, and sat on the edge of the single bed beside the dining table: "Good night then."

"Good night."

Anna watched Lu Li take off his windbreaker, unbuttoned the cuffs and the first button of the collar, unbuttoned the black tie, and put it next to the pillow filled with wheat husks.

Lu Li lay down on his side, pulled up his woolen coat and covered his body, covering his lips and nose.

The    psychic gun was attached to his right waist, which made Lu Li lie on his left side, facing the dining table and Anna.

This is the first time Anna sees Lu Li sleeping on the bed, and it feels a little...weird.

Although I often see Lu Li resting, he always lies on the table, and this is the first time she has seen him lying on the bed.

The unfolded book that   Xu held quietly covered his cheeks, leaving only a pair of clear eyes exposed, staring at the half-cheek that had closed his eyes without blinking.

Anna's unbridled peeping didn't last long. After more than ten seconds, Lu Li's eyes suddenly opened and looked at each other, causing Anna to panic for a moment.

  “…”

Lu Li blinked, and silently tugged his windbreaker upwards, covering his black eyes and forehead together.

"Well……"

Anna retracted her gaze, sat down on the still warm wooden chair, and absently read the book.

Time flows quietly like the smooth wick in an oil lamp, the shadows of wooden chairs and floating books cast on the scrubbed and faded wooden floor.

Maybe minutes passed, maybe hours. Half asleep and half awake, an illusory and hazy voice sounded from a distance and could not discern the source.

   "Did he fall asleep?"

   "Already asleep."

The voice is a man and a woman. Some are familiar, some are unfamiliar. Suddenly, the image of the voice gradually emerged: the tavern owner and the mysterious man.

With the gradual clearing of consciousness, the voice of speech became directional. It seemed to be a whispered conversation through the thin wooden wall.

The conversation is still going on, and the target of the discussion may be Lu Li.

   "When do we act?"

   "Start later."

Lu Li's gradually awakened consciousness tried to control his body and wanted to open his eyes. But he soon discovered that his body seemed to be dead, with no feedback.

He could hear the chatter behind a certain wooden wall and floor, and the occasional sound of flipping pages, but his body didn't respond, and he couldn't even open his eyes.

If the woolen trench coat hadn't covered her face, Anna might have noticed that Lu Li's eyes were rolling quickly under Lu Li's closed eyelids.

Lu Li, who was fully aware of his own condition, gradually became calm and tried to open his eyes again and again.

   The two whispers continued.

   "Shh...he's waking up."

"He has eaten the fruit, don't worry."

   "Let's go, get ready."

Once, twice. Lu Li's consciousness hit his thin eyelids like waves. Suddenly, those eyes opened suddenly, everything around him seemed to lose its way, fresh air poured in, and the clear and real reality was exposed in front of him.

Eyes rolled, the oil lamp was placed on the dining table, and the dim yellow light barely illuminated the entire room. Anna sat in the wooden chair, holding the book and watching quietly.

"what time is it?"

Ana looked at the single bed, Lu Li had already sat up, and the windbreaker fell from his right shoulder.

"It's less than 1 o'clock." Looking at the alarm clock on the dining table, Anna replied.

   "Did you just hear that?"

   "Hear what?"

"nothing."

Lu Li concentrated his attention, struggling to recall the strange conversation he heard earlier.

This is the reason why Lu Li has avoided lying in bed to rest after his arrival.

Deep sleep can make people energetic, but during deep sleep, all perception of the outside world is minimized. And if he wakes up without a good rest, it will be difficult for him to think normally.

The content of the conversation was gradually recalled, Lu Li raised his eyes and looked at the curtain, which was already well hung there, covering the window.

   "Did something happen?" he asked.

Anna put down the book with only a few dozen pages left unread: "No, maybe the curtains are drawn, or maybe we live on the second floor..."

"It has nothing to do with which floors." Lu Li said.

Those dialogues Anna didn't hear, so is it real, or is it a subconscious hallucination caused by the light effect...?

At this moment, Lu Li saw a strange, flat black shadow sticking out from the gap under the curtain.

It looks like an arm, but the palm part is slender and sharp, like a strange claw, reaching the bottom of the oil lamp on the dining table.

The dark claws were about to touch the oil lamp and candle, and Lu Li stood up abruptly, but it was too late.

  Call——

The sound of blowing air sounded in the ears of Lu Li and Anna, and the next moment, the candle in the oil lamp suddenly went out.

Intense darkness surrounded from all sides.
